The Rooks County Commissioners joined in a conference call at 10:00 am Monday, March 16, 2020 to get updated on the COVID-19 virus news. Those present for the conference call were the Commissioners: John Ruder, Corky Hagan, and Greg Balthazor. Ruthmary Muir, Rooks County Clerk, was present. Others joining were: Butch Post, Emergency Management; Gary Knight, Rooks County Sheriff; Chad Sterling, Under Sheriff; Gail Gibbs, Jail Administrator; Whitney Inglsbee, Jail Sargeant; and Lori Eichman, Rooks County Health Department Administrator.
Updates as follows:
* The Rooks County Health Center (hospital) has closed doors to the public with signage to call first. They are offering curb-side assistance.
* The County schools have closed until the end of March.
* The Plainville Library has closed.
* The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) put out a statement to restrict groups of 50 or more from gathering. This is affecting church gatherings.
Butch Post, Emergency Preparedness Manager, encouraged everyone to get their COOP (Continuity of Operation Plan) plans updated. He reported the Rooks County Emergency Operation Center has been established at a “watch level”. Post has an emergency declaration form for COVID-19 available if needed. Post plans to meet with County department heads and county-wide elected officials during the regular County Commission meeting.
Lori Eichman, Rooks County Health Nurse, said she would keep updated with conference calls with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Eichman will be keeping in constant contact with Dr. Jen Brull, Rooks County’s Health Officer. At this time, hospital administrators, Post and Eichman are having regular discussion and phone conferences to help benefit the public.
