The Rooks County Board of Commissioners met with the following present: Chairman, John Ruder; and Member Tim Berland. Greg Balthazor was absent due to an illness. Ruthmary Muir, Rooks County Clerk, was present to write the minutes. Virgi Laska, with the Stockton Sentinel, was also present. Ruder called the meeting to order and asked all to rise and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. The short agenda was approved with the absence of Rich Bouchey, Road & Bridge Supervisor.
The Commissioners reviewed the minutes of April 26th and April 29th. Ruder made a motion to approve both sets of minutes as approved. Berland seconded the motion. After the minutes were printed, Berland made a motion to sign the minutes of April 26th and April 29th. Ruder seconded the motion.
In weekly reports, Berland had talked to the Palco Mayor, once again, about the houses in Palco that the council would like to demolish and clean up the properties. He will check and see whether any of the three houses are listed on the tax sale.
Berland had joined the zoom meeting with Butch Post, EM; and the LEPC group. They discussed trying to plan evacuation systems in case of any upcoming disasters when needed. Depending on what kind of disaster is happening, protocols will need to be put in place.
The recent county-wide rains were discussed, with a little hail received, too, around Zurich.
Ruder had attended the Red Bud Board meeting on Thursday. He reported the Assisted Living Complex has twelve (12) units occupied, and the Nursing Facility has thirty-one (31) residents. An unexpected bill will be coming with the repairs to the door that has settled. This repair could get quite costly as it is considered a fire door, with a lot of regulations. The nursing facility has recently lost a day-time nurse, and agency staffing will need to be used to replace her. The Community Foundation Committee has a meeting scheduled to get the funding secured for the business plan and feasibility study.
The Commissioners discussed the purchase of the freightliner truck from Keller Tank Service. It has been approved to purchase the 2003 Freightliner with 85-barrel vacuum tank, air valve, and spreader. The truck has 206,718 miles on it. A voucher will be made.
Berland said the Logan Road is needing graded badly. The Commissioners talked about getting one of the graders that is not presently being used on the Logan Road by the Section Man in that area, whose grader is at Concordia for repairs. Ruder sent a text to the Road & Bridge Supervisor with this request.
A rent check was received from the State of Kansas in the amount of $1,000 for rent of the Water Resources Building. Ruder made a motion to sign the check for deposit. Berland seconded the motion.
With no further business to transact, Ruder made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Berland seconded the motion.
