“French Quarters” dedicated in Damar

Damar Foundation 1A ribbon cutting was held in Damar on Saturday, October 25, 2014 for the new headquarters of the recently-formed Damar Community Historical Foundation.  The “French Quarters” consists of two buildings on Main Street that will be the headquarters of the foundation.  The vision for the non-profit is to promote the French Canadian culture through preservation, education, and economic development in the area.

The first building was donated to the foundation by the Roberts children in memory of their parents, Edmond “Cotton” and Rita Roberts.  The second building was donated to the foundation by Leona Newell and her children in memory of her husband, Loren Newell.

The French Quarters will eventually host many historical items from Damar’s past and will also serve as a visitor’s center for the community.
